For those who love the sand and sea, there is PACIFICA-a new
residential resort community on Ensenada Bay. At PACIFICA you get the
best of both worlds: the serenity of a private beachside home and the
excitement of Ensenada, a well-established Baja destination.
Ensenada has been attracting visitors since the Gold Rush of the late
1800's. In the 1930's, the Riviera Hotel and Casino (now a museum and
social center) brought celebrities like Marilyn Monroe and Al Capone to
Baja. The waves at San Miguel Beach have drawn generations of
California surfers to Ensenada, and today major cruise lines such as
Holland America, Princess, Carnival, and Royal Caribbean make regular
stops here. From the water's edge to the inland desert, the area offers
many ways to relax and unwind
SEA LIFE
In the winter months, Ensenada Bay is a terrific place to see migrating
gray whales, either from shore or on a whale-watching boat. Deep-sea
fishing charters are available year round; catch albacore, mahi mahi
and red snapper, among others. Or travel to the southern edge of
Ensenada Bay to watch "La Bufadora", one of only four natural blowholes
in the world, spout seawater 70 feet in the air. The waters near La
Bufadora are especially popular with kayakers and scuba divers.
FOOD AND DRINK
Ensenada is known far and wide as the birthplace of the Fish Taco. Now
it is gaining acclaim for its exquisite Baja-Med cuisine, a fusion of
traditional Mexican and Mediterranean flavors. Ensenada has a number of
top-rated restaurant-bars. And if you want a little history with your
cerveza, drop in at the legendary Hussong's Cantina, where locals and
tourists have mingled since 1892.
In addition to great food, Ensenada is becoming known for its
award-winning wine. More than 90% of Mexico's wine is produced in
Ensenada's sun-drenched wine country, just a 20-minute drive from
PACIFICA. You'll find boutique wineries, wine-tastings, bed and
breakfast hotels, restaurants, and cultural centers. During the month
of August, the wine country harvest festival offers wine-maker tours,
sampling of local foods, sunset concerts and cultural events.
SHOPPING
Retail experiences in Ensenada range from the familiar to the exotic.
For gifts and collectibles, downtown Ensenada has a variety of shops
offering hand-crafted furniture, clothing and jewelry made in the
cultural traditions of Mexican and native Indian people. For everyday
shopping, you'll find Costco, Wal-Mart and Home Depot within a mile of
the PACIFICA property.
OFF-ROAD RACING
Ensenada plays host to the annual Baja 500 and 1000 off-road races
featuring motorcycles, stock cars, production vehicles, buggies,
trucks, and custom fabricated racers. This wildly popular sport
attracts big-name drivers, their support teams, celebrities, and racing
fans from around the world.
GOLF
If golf is your game, there are two equally picturesque courses to
choose from: an 18-hole canyon course located eight minutes from
PACIFICA, and a 27-hole ocean-view course located 30 minutes from
PACIFICA. Both have pro shops, practice greens, and driving ranges.
