Off Road Riding in Rosarito Mexico
Off Road Riding in Rosarito, Mexico
The sun rises over Puerto Nuevo, the surf at Club Marena is flat and no one is out at Las Gaviotas, the recent rains have softened the trails east of Palacio and Las Ventanas, my buddy, Max,  and I put the surfboards back in the garage, and fill the Honda 450x’s up to the top, and start off our ride to the back of Descanso and the Palacio towers.

We start east of the Puerto Nuevo off ramp to Tecate, the road is lined with small rocks the size of baseballs, we ride about 2” off the saddle and wish we had the money to buy fork stabilizers.  The hills are green with the recent rains, and we burn up the roads in 5th gear at speeds that are less than the Baja 1000 but we are enjoying the Baja sunrise and ocean views from about 900’ above sea level  and after much riding are overlooking the central wine coast known as the Guadalupe Valley northeast of Ensenada.

We suffer through the rocks for a short period and then cover the ranch land east of the beach where we can see La Fonda, Palacio, and Descanso.   We wish for larger tanks for the 450’s but continue to push our speeds beyond our abilities while covering the miles of ranch lands that are abundant and available to ride in Southern Rosarito.

The ranchers are friendly as long as we are respectful of their land and animals.  Many of the fences are unlocked, and the only requirement is to close and resecure the gates upon leaving the area.   Most of our rides are without mechanical failure except for the occasional flat tires.  We have been riding the hills beyond Rosarito for several years, and found the country to be beautiful and tolerant to our riding.  The people are friendly and helpful, courtesy and respect go along way in off road riding in Baja.
